#BlackPoundDay

Saturday 27th June marked the very first UK Black Pound Day. A monthly campaign setup by Swiss from So Solid Crew (you know you’re old when you remember SSC) to encourage people to buy products/services from Black owned businesses. As iffff I needed any more encouragement to spend my pounds, I’m buzzing that this campaign is bringing to light some amazing Black owned brands.

Using your black pound isn’t limited to one day and I’ve put together a list of brands/products you’ll want with you every day of the year. Your bank balance may not thank you, but your makeup drawer will. Admittedly, not all are UK based but they’re fab nonetheless and it would be rude for me not to share them with you…

Beauty Bakerie

Probably the sweetest brand there ever was. Beauty Bakerie has a range of products, all with baking inspired names and adorable packaging. Better yet, the shade ranges start with the deepest and end with the lightest. When asked the motivation for this Cashmere Nicole (founder) responded:

“We arranged them dark to light. It means we’ve been conditioned to think that dark to light is out of order.” [source]

Available from multiple UK stockists (Cult Beauty, Boots, Selfridges, Look Fantastic) Beauty Bakerie satisfies the craving with none of the guilt.

Pat McGrath Labs

Pat is a legend and needs no introduction. She’s painted the faces of icons such as Naomi Campbell, Rihanna and Duckie Thot. I have drooled over her iconic eyeshadow palettes from her brand Pat McGrath Labs. These products are meant for the fearless, the inner goddess and unfortunately, those with hefty disposable income (her products are spenny).

Uoma Beauty

Pronounced (un-mah), Uoma is the brand that comes to mind when you think of #BlackPoundDay. They’re a company dedicated to inclusivity, diversity and their marketing screams badass. Nigerian born, LA & London based Sharon Chuter hit the nail on the head:

“The world is beautiful because we are all different and colorful in our unique way and this is why Uoma Beauty Exists” [source]

These products are bright, bold and fun and will definitely stand out on your dressing table.
