“…Yawn and stretch and try to come to life…”
Ahh Dolly, she speaks to me on an emotional level with this tune. We all know the struggle of mustering the strength to get out of bed when the alarm blasts on a Monday morning. Evaluating if we actually need to wash our hair or if our good old friend Batiste can get us away with prolonging it one more day. Our time in the morning is precious, the quicker you can get ready, the longer you have in bed. With that my friends, I would like to share with you my go to work makeup that makes me look somewhat human, all in under 15 minutes.
Primer is key, yes, we want to look alive on a Monday morning but we also need to stay looking that way until 5pm. I use NYX Studio Perfect Primer all over the face. I tend to have redness from old acne scars so I use a green concealer on these areas. The Soap & Glory Kick Ass All Is Calm Anti-Redness Concealer is a God send. This ultra-creamy concealer glides on the skin, immediately muting any pesky redness. A must for all my girls prone to blemishes. *Tip* I rub this on my fingers to warm it up before applying it on the skin.
My favourite work foundation has to be the Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)Able Foundation. This foundation hides all sins, lightweight and feathery on the skin yet insane coverage! *Tip* Use a buffing brush to apply this, I like to dot the foundation on the brush instead of directly on the skin.
The eyes are the window to the soul – a dark, sleep deprived one depending on how your week is going. The cult classic NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer has this title for a reason. This concealer is unbelievable at hiding dark circles but doesn’t sit in pores or lines like some others. I like to apply this with the wand directly under the eyes then buff it into the skin with a damp beauty blender. *Tip* Use patting motions with the beauty blender instead of wiping. Under the eyes is a very sensitive area so you want to avoid harsh tugging etc. – gotta think of future wrinkles people!
To set the concealer/base use the NYX Professional Makeup Studio Loose Finishing powder. Dust the skin with this product, not pack it so an ultra-fluffy brush is preferable. *Tip* When dipping the brush into the pan, tap the excess off before applying onto the skin or else you’ll resemble Morticia Addams, this sh*t is whittteeeee.
When it comes to quick, on the go makeup I’m a big fan of sticks, minimal fuss and minimum effort. Contour = NARS Matte Multiple stick. This warm, creamy product glides onto the skin and blends beautifully. Apply this directly onto the skin then buff out with a packed buffing brush.
The Kiko Radiant Touch Creamy Stick Highlighter gives me life. I find a lot of stick highlighters to be quite stiff and difficult to blend but this applies like butter. *Tip* Warm it on the fingers first, before dabbing it onto the high points of the face. To me, nothing says I’m ready for the day than blinding your colleagues with highlighter, so if you like that intense glow, go over your cream highlight with theBalm’s Mary-Lou Manizer.
Eyes + Brows
None of us have the time nor the patience for a full-blown eye look in the morning, those who do should submit themselves to neurology labs for scientific testing. That said, I still like people to think I made an effort, it’s all about the illusion people. Kiko’s Cream Crush Eyeshadow – you sweep it on the eyes with only your fingers and BAM, you got yourself an eye look. For more intensity, sweep your powder highlight over the shadow with your fingers.
So many mascaras leave greyish smudging underneath my eyes as the day progresses whereas L’Oréal Volume Million Lashes Feline Mascara does not budge.
The L’Oréal Brow Artist Plumper gives an effortless brushed through look in seconds.
Blush + Lip
The Clinique Blushing Blush powder in Aglow is a coral/bronze blush that suits a spectrum of skin tones and blends naturally on the skin.
Finally, set everything with the only setting spray a girl needs in her life – Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Setting Spray.
So there you have it, work makeup in a flash. Have a good week and if you’re waitin’ for the day your ship’ll come in, just remember that the tide’s gonna turn and it’s all gonna roll your way…
